Giving Your Implants the Cleanest Possible Start and the Strongest Future

Dental implants have an impressive success rate. Still, that success depends on two things most patients never hear about: a clean, bacteria-free environment at placement, and healthy gums and bone for years afterward. At Guru Dentistry in Irvine, CA, Dr. Vanila Godara uses the BLAST protocol to support both.

A common myth is that implants do not need attention because they cannot get cavities. While the implant itself cannot decay, the gum and bone around it absolutely can become infected. When harmful bacteria build up around an implant, they can quietly destroy the supporting bone, and an implant without bone beneath it will eventually fail. The BLAST protocol is our proactive answer to that risk, protecting your investment from day one and at every visit that follows.

The BLAST Protocol Works In Two Phases

Phase One: Activation and Decontamination

Before your implant is placed, the laser is used to decontaminate the bone and gum tissue at the site, eliminating harmful bacteria while preserving the beneficial bacteria your mouth needs. At the same time, we use a process called photofunctionalization to reactivate the titanium implant surface.

It is a little-known fact that implants begin to age and lose some of their bone-bonding ability before they are ever placed. Reactivating the titanium helps the implant bond more closely with the bone, supporting stronger osseointegration. Together, these steps create an ideal environment for implant success.

Phase Two: Long-Term Maintenance

After your implant is placed, the BLAST protocol continues during your routine follow-up visits. We use the laser to regularly decontaminate the tissue around the implant, keeping harmful bacteria in check before they can spread and threaten the bone. This ongoing care is one of the most effective ways to protect your implant for the long haul.

The Benefits of Choosing BLAST

Why Decontamination Is Important

The bacteria living in your mouth before an implant is placed can influence how well that implant heals and integrates. After an extraction, bacteria can linger in the healed bone and reinfect the area later.

By reducing these bacteria before placement, we help prevent early infections and give your implant the cleanest possible foundation. Research has shown that the PerioLase laser can eliminate the vast majority of bacteria on titanium implant surfaces, which is exactly why we make it a core part of our process rather than an afterthought.

Protecting Your Smile and Your Investment,
Year After Year

What makes care at Guru Dentistry different is not only the technology, but the way it is delivered. Because we are a family-owned practice that keeps your entire treatment under one roof, the same team that places your implant also maintains it with the BLAST protocol over the years. You are never handed off to an outside office for follow-up care. That continuity is part of how we protect your smile and your investment.

BLAST Protocol FAQs

No. The PerioLase MVP-7 uses low laser energy, and most patients find the experience relaxing and comfortable. It is a gentle addition to your implant care, not a separate surgery.

Not at all. The activation phase occurs before and during placement, and the maintenance phase continues throughout the life of your implant during regular follow-up visits, helping prevent infection around the implant for years to come.

Yes. The protocol is used for both individual implants and laser-assisted full-arch implant placement, so patients restoring a single tooth or an entire arch can benefit.

No. You will still brush, clean around your implant, and attend regular visits. The BLAST protocol works alongside good daily care to keep the gums and bone around your implant healthy.

The best way to find out is a personal evaluation. During your complimentary implant consultation in Irvine, CA, Dr. Godara can explain how the protocol fits into your specific treatment plan.
